U.S. Coast Guard Delivers Latest HC-130J Super Hercules to L3 Technologies for Minotaur Retrofit

The U.S. Coast Guard delivered its latest HC-130J Super Hercules long range surveillance aircraft to the L3 Technologies Inc. Integrated Systems Platform Integration Division in Waco, Texas, April 30 to undergo replacement of its legacy mission system with Minotaur.

The aircraft, CGNR 2007, will receive Minotaur installation, which is a government-owned and -operated mission system architecture used by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Missionization with the Minotaur Mission System Suite involves modifying the aircraft to incorporate the radar; sensors; and remaining command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance equipment to allow aircrews to gather and process information for transmission to surface and shore operators.

CGNR 2007 previously operated out of Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The retrofit of CGNR 2007 is scheduled for completion in early 2019.

Minotaur Mission System

Minotaur is mission system architecture that incorporates the sensors; radar; and remaining command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) equipment that enables aircrews to gather and process surveillance information for transmission to shore and surface operators.

Minotaur is government-owned and -operated mission system architecture that integrates imagery and data from multiple aircraft sensor streams, allowing operators to track targets and transmit information to other platforms and units. The mission system is also used by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The Coast Guard is integrating the mission system across its HC-130J, HC-144 and C-27J fixed-wing aircraft.
