A U.S. Navy sailor assigned to the Boston University Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) unit tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on March 19.
This marks the first positive case of a U.S. service member assigned to Naval ROTC.
The member is currently restricted to their residence, receiving supportive and medical care in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Sailor had been self-isolating in their residence since returning from overseas travel earlier in the month.
“The Navy is committed to taking every measure possible to protect the health of our force. We remain in close coordination with state and federal authorities, and public health authorities to ensure the well-being of our personnel and local population”, said a statement from the Naval Service Training Command (NSTC).
