USEUCOM, IDF Cancel Exercise Juniper Cobra 20 Due to COVID-19 Concerns

The U.S. European Command, in close coordination with the Israeli Defense Force (IDF), has canceled the remaining portion of combined missile defense exercise Juniper Cobra 20 amid Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) concerns.

“The decision is in alignment with recent Israeli Ministry of Health guidelines on COVID-19, and a precautionary measure to ensure the health and safety of all participants. We appreciate the hard work that our IDF partners have put into making this exercise happen. We look forward to the next iteration of Juniper Cobra”, said a USEUCOM statement.

Exercise Juniper Cobra 20 was the tenth iteration of the biennial Juniper Cobra exercise series conducted in Israel every two years since 2001 as part of a routine training cycle designed to improve the interoperability of the U.S. and IDF defense systems.

Approximately 2,500 U.S. personnel were to support JC20, with more than 600 of those personnel at various locations throughout Israel. Approximately 1,000 IDF personnel were also to participate in the exercise.
