Chinese President Xi Jinping was named chairman of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Military Commission (CMC) on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at the first plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.
This is the second term for Jinping as the head of the powerful CMC, which oversees the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
General Zhang Youxia was named the second vice-chairman, while incumbent vice-chairman Xu Qiliang, was named the first vice-chairman.
Jinping’s close ally, Gen Zhang replaces General Fan Changlong, who was expected to retire during the 19th Party Congress, which concluded on Tuesday.
Wei Fenghe, Li Zuocheng, Miao Hua and Zhang Shengmin were named members of the CMC at the plenary session.
