Yemen’s Houthi rebels claim shooting down of Saudi Typhoon fighter jet

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed shooting down of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft, according to local media reports.

The aircraft had been targeted with a surface-to-air missile (SAM) as it was flying in the skies over Nihm district east of the Yemeni capital city of Sana’a on Friday evening, Yemen Press reported citing the statement given by Yemen’s air defense unit to the al-Masirah television network.

Nehm is about 60 km northeast of Sanaa, where fighting is raging daily between Houthi fighters who control the capital and forces of the Yemeni internationally recognized government backed by warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition.

There were no immediate comments by the Saudi-led coalition over the Houthi claims.
